Camp Colman Day 3

We closed out our stay at Camp Colman by finishing  the high ropes elements, playing a game called “pirates” and wishing a student Happy Birthday in that special Camp Colman way. We left knowing each other a little more, trusting each other and working as a more cohesive group. The students may have been covered with dirt and exhausted by their efforts, but they each grew just that little bit taller by the way they held their heads high with pride. They are a bit more sure of what they can accomplish individually and as a group. We feel very set up for an incredible school year together.

Camp Colman Day 2

Camp is full of kids with a bit more swagger in their steps. Each one of them has faced the rope course and challenge elements head on. Whether they made it half way or to the top of the climbing wall, crossed the catwalk log or just climbed up the tree a bit, each one of them pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and witnessed the growth that comes from sometimes taking a deep breath and going for it. The encouragement and support they’ve given to each other shows what an amazing group of kids they are.
They even convinced Caitlin and Mr. G to take a turn on the giant swing!

Camp Colman Day 1

It’s been a beautiful day for our first day of camp. The students had had to conquer many obstacles and learn to work as a team. So far they’ve forded a chocolate river with marshmallows, sung new songs, cheered new cheers and got very dirty in the gaga ball pit. Highlights of the day were the climbing tower and the giant swing. The kids even made Mrs. Ritchie take the 60 foot free fall! Not much time but here’s a few photos from the day:

Governor Jay Inslee Gives Seabury Kids a Shout-out!

We seized a last minute opportunity to attend the groundbreaking ceremony at the Tacoma Art Museum. The students had the opportunity to see dancers from the Puyallup tribe, and hear speeches from congressman Derek Kilmer, Mayor Marilyn Strickland and Governor Jay Inslee. Governor Inslee pointed to the Seabury kids and talked about the importance of arts, creativity and technology education for these young people!
We then spent some time on the Bridge of Glass and got to finally gives these laptops a spin.

We’re Back!

A new school year has begun! What a great time we had with our new 2013-2014 crew. We did all the basic “back to school stuff” and then managed some three-legged races, started French classes and took a tour of some cool new murals downtown. We ran into a few horses and squid. Just typical Seabury Middle School shenanigans.
It’s going to a great year.
