Update 11/2/2012

Whew!  Looking back on the pictures just from this week, it’s amazing all that we’ve done:

  • We came in Monday morning to find our school freshly painted! The improvements in here continue to make this place look great!
  • Monday started with Z.K. bringing in a delicious sweet rice dish to celebrate the Muslim holiday Eid. She explained that during Eid al-Adha, celebrations start after the annual Hajj is completed in Mecca. It was enjoyed by all.
  • Later that day we had a chance to get a walking tour with Tacoma Ghost Tours. This father and son team wove lessons of Tacoma’s history with supernatural tales. The kids that chose to go were riveted as they got to hear about the ghosts in the Pantages, the curse of Allen Mason’s mummy, the sinking of the Andalena ship in Commencement Bay, and  the ghosts of Old City Hall, among other tales. That sure beats a text book!
  • Our student elections were held this week. We have a new student council who are already working on a fundraising campaign to help the Red Cross in its assistance toward those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Look for more information next week about ways to help.
  • Of course, it was also Halloween. A parade of gentlemanly, duct taped, caped and wigged out middle schoolers tackled the famous Spooner Farms Corn Maze. The rain couldn’t dampen their holiday spirit. We then trekked to the lower school for the annual parade and party.
  • Today was our First Friday gathering at the lower school. Our students created a video for our troops in time for Veteran’s Day. The middle school kids are editing it. We’ll let you know when it’s ready.
  • We are also getting a visit today from Gary Bush (L.B.’s Grandfather), a historian from Lewiston, Idaho. We’ll have pictures and more information next week.

Reminder: No school next Friday, Nov. 9 (Teacher in-service) or Monday, Nov. 12 (Veteran’s Day)

In the meantime: Enjoy a restful weekend! We’ve all earned it.
