English: We have been working all week on preparing for a major vocabulary test, reviewing the first 100 words that we have covered. On Monday, I asked the students to generate their own list of words using the following criteria; 10 words that were of low challenge, 10 words of medium challenge, and 10 words of high challenge. I then reviewed the list and added 5 more.
At the beginning of the week, we focused on time management and each student was required to develop a study plan. During Thursday’s English class, I was impressed with how well the students knew their words!
Students have also been working on a series of activities that have concentrated on the identification of values that they believe strongly. THANK YOU for taking some time during the Thanksgiving Break to be “interviewed” by your child.
Math: Students spent the week working on plots and graphs, variables and equations, algebraic expressions and equations and adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing fractions with Mrs. Towne.
In the kitchen: Friday morning we made buttermilk pancakes for breakfast. It was messy, but the results were delicious!
Arts: After a hearty pancake breakfast, students had their first Performing Arts class with Tamara Ritchie Friday morning. They talked about Shakespeare and the art of improvisation and played a game popularly known as “WAAH!”
Mrs. Ritchie will be teaching a Performing Arts class to the middle school on Thursdays and Fridays. Welcome Tamara!
